Plant communities at a wood preservative treatment site, and Cu tolerance patterns of plant species

Biodiversity of plant communities was assessed at a wood preservative treatment site using a plot series with increasing Cu contarnination in topsoils. Plant diversity decreased with soil Cu contamination. Salicaceae, Poaceae and Asteraceae showed highest frequencies at high soil contamination. Agrostis capillaris and Rumex acetosella were most abundant at high Cu contamination. Metallicolous (M) A. capillaris and non-metallicolous (NM) Carex praecox displayed high Cu tolerance.
