Speciation and transition characteristics of cadmium released from closed mine tailings in paddy condition

Two year lysimeter experiments with SL and SiL soil types were done to identify the speciation and transition characteristics of cadmium released from the two types of mine railings. Leachate pH was not significantly different with soil type and treated amount of mine tailing. However, ECs in leachate from SL plot was much higher than those from SiL. MINTEQ output showed 16 different cadmium species. Major composition in leachate was Cd<2+>, CdCl<+>, and CdSO<,4> (aq), which consists of more than 99%. The concentrations of cadmium in polished rice were increased as the treatment of both mine railings increased. Compared with soil types, rice harvested on the SiL plot contained more cadmium than that on the SL plot.
