Revegetation and energy crop production on heavy metal polluted sites in China: case studies
Application of sewage sludge on mine tailings reservoirs for revegetation/non-food crop production is a potential way for safe disposal of sewage sludge. However, decisions on applicability of sewage sludge to mine tailings needs to be made on scientific and case-specific basis. The main objective of our work is to explore the applicability of sludge compost in energy crop production on contaminated land in China. Here we only report the latest results from the root elongation test aimed at identifying potential limiting factors for plant growth on two types of copper mine tailings.
