Phytoremediation of contaminated soils at a wood treatment site

We presented data on risk assessment, phytoremediation, and restoration of plant communities for contaminated topsoils at a wood treatment site. Copper in topsoils ranged from 65 to 2600g·g<-1> and was identified as main metal contaminant affecting plant growth. Agrostis capillaris and Rumex acetosella were the most frequent plant species on highly Cu contaminated topsoils. In potted soils, composted poultry manure combined with zerovalent iron grit (2%), Ca oxide, and Thomas basic slags were very efficient to restore bean growth. Metallicolous (M) A. capillaris, non-metallicolous (NM) Carex praecox, and the hybride Populus trichocarpa x deltado des cv Beaupre displayed a high Cu tolerance in laboratory experiments. Agrostis gigantea showed high Cu tolerance in field experiment.
