Application of endophytic bacteria to improve the performances of plants for phytoremediation and biomass production

Our research exploited the possibilities to use endophytic bacteria as carriers of metabolic properties that should assist their host plant in degrading organic contaminants or detoxifying trace elements that presently cause a problem for phytoremediation. We also demonstrated that the plant growth promoting properties of endophytic bacteria can be used to improve the biomass production of poplar on marginal soils, which is of significance for the use of poplar for carbon sequestration and as a feedstock for biofuel production.
