Identification of genes for biofortification: genetic and molecular analysis of mineral accumulation in Arabidopsis thaliana

To identify genes involved in mineral (zinc) accumulation that can act as targets for selection in plant breeding or for genetic modification to improve Zn biofortification, a Quantitative Trait Locus (QTL) approach and a comparative genomics approach have been used for Arabidopsis thaliana. Several relevant QTL have been identified as well as genes that, when overexpressed, modify the zinc content of A. thaliana under different zinc supply conditions.
