Production of a nanocomposite Fe fertilizer and its application in soil

Iron deficiency is a highly prevalent form of malnutrition, affecting one-fourth of the worlds women and children. This deficiency is very common in Irans calcareous soil. In this research Fe availability of a manufactured Fe nanocomposite was compared with chelated Fe and FeSO<,4> as two commonly used fertilizers in soils. The results of this study showed that there was no significant difference among DTPA-Fe in soils treated with Fe nanocomposite and FeSO<,4>. However, DTPA-Fe in soils treated with chelated Fe was higher. Although DTPA-Fe in chelated Fe and FeSO<,4> treatments decreased with time (60 days), it was constant in the presence of Fe nanocomposite. It seems that the low availability of the Fe nanocomposite was mainly due to polymeric phase of the nanocomposite. Other possible factors in the release of Fe for plant were discussed.
