Expression of pea seed ferritin cDNA in indian mustard: nutritional value and oxidative stress tolerance of the transformants
Indian mustard (Brassica juncea) transformation with a vector containing the ferritin construct using Agrobacterium was successfully accomplished. The integration and expression of the transgenic plant genome in T<,0> and T<,1> progenies at molecular level was confirmed by PCR, Southern blot, RT-PCR and Western analysis. The T<,1> generation ferritin transformants showed an enhanced iron accumulation in the leaves and the seeds. Ferritin transformants had elevated iron and tolerance to the oxidative stress.
