Plasmid DNA oxidative damage assay of civil coal and its combustion products in Xuanwei, China

A plasmid DNA oxidative damage assay was employed to compare the bioreactivity of the domestic-use coal and its combustion products in Xuanwei country where the incidence of lung cancer is high, with the industrial coal and its combustion products in Shuicheng of Guizhou where the incidence of lung cancer is low. The results showed that the plasmid DNA oxidative damage capacity of civil coal and its combustion products in Xuanwei was far from higher than that of raw coal and its combustion products in Shuicheng of Guizhou. Indoor failing dust, chimney dust, and stove ash are the top three samples whose oxidative damage capacities were the highest in Xuanwei. However, the plasmid DNA damage capacity of Shuicheng samples was very low, hardly higher than TD20 or TD50 values (sample concentration causing 20% or 50% plasmid DNA damage).
