SINOMER a Sino-Norwegian Cooperation Project on mercury pollution in Guizhou Province, China

Pollution of mercury (Hg) is a serious environmental problem given much and growing international attention. The Hg emissions to the environment in China are considerable, and significant effects on environment and health in China may be expected. Discharge to water may have considerable impacts on the local environment. Emissions of mercury to air may have regional and global impacts through long range transport in the atmosphere. Improved knowledge of the fate of Hg in the environment and its environmental impacts in China is essential in order to implement the most cost effective measures to curb Hg related problems at local, regional as well as global scale.
