Potential mercury volatilization from Almaden soils
Potential mercury volatilization from soil was investigated in soils from Almaden mercury-mine district. The objective of this work is to estimate the potentials contributions of mercury emissions from study Almaden soil to the atmospheric load of mercury. For this purpose a simple mercury volatilization simulation experiment was performed. Experimental results indicate that the highest fluxes were determined in the first hour. Afterwards, during the following hours, fluxes gradually decreased until keeping constant. These volatile mercury fluxes are within the rank obtained in Idrija region by Kocman et al. (2004).
