Characterization of zinc resistant bacterial isolates from rhizosphere of wild plants growing on metal polluted soils

The characterization of 134 bacteria isolated from root colonizing (Ni, Cu, Zn, CA and Pb) metal polluted soils was performed. Zn tolerance, sorption and accumulation capacities were evaluated. A high percentage (51.6%) of these bacteria was Zn-tolerant (3mM). They presented greater sorption (168±0.6mg (Zn)· g<-1> DW) than accumulation capacity (6.6±0.4). It is suggested that these properties and others evaluated in previous research may be important and useful factors to recommend their use in phytoremediation of metal polluted sites.
