Impacts of municipal wastewater irrigation on heavy metals distribution in calcareous soil and rice plant
In order to investigate the application of municipal wastewater on accumulation of metals in soil and cultivated plants, some municipal wastewater in west of Sari and center of Ghaemshahr (North of Iran) were studied in 2005. In harvesting time, root, shoot and grain of rice and the soil of cultivated lands (control and treatment) were sampled and the amount of metals in soil, root, shoot and grain of rice were determined. Results indicated that using of municipal wastewater in irrigation water enhanced the concentration of Pb, Ni, Cr, Zn, Cu, Mn and Cd in soils. The concentration of metals in root was more than in shoot and grain and in affected area was more than in control, but was not at toxic level. Transport indices of heavy metals from root to grain of rice were Zn>Cu>Cr>Mn>Cd>Ni>Pb.
