Concentrations and mass balance budgets of Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn in a remote forested catchment in Finland
Concentrations of Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn in deposition, surface and sub-surface waters, soil and biomass and input-output budgets at a boreal, remote forested catchment in eastern Finland are presented. Concentrations in all media were generally low. Catchment input-output budgets showed retention of atmospheric inputs of all metals, but to varying degrees: Pb and Cu>90%;Zn and Cd>80%, Ni 60%;and Cr, 43%. Most of the retention took place in the terrestrial part of the catchment (biomass and soil), with lake sedimentation accounting for the remainder.
