Possible ligand complexation of Ni in the eurasian serpentine plants Alyssum bracteatum, A. murale (Brassicaceae) and Cleome heratensis (Capparaceae)

Differences in the levels of amino and organic acids in serpentine and non-serpentine plants were investigated in responses to Ni treatment. The results suggest that Ni tolerance in the selected serpentine plant species may at least in part be due to enhancement of certain amino and organic acids which are probably involved in Ni chelating and detoxification in the serpentine species but not in non-serpentine plants.
