Distribution of arsenic and antimony in the sediments from Daliao River watersystem (Northeast of China)
Daliao River watersystem, located in the northeast area of China, consists of Hun River, Taizi River and Daliao River. It is one of the most seriously contaminated rivers in China, due to industrial, municipal, and agricultural sources. The mid- and downstream area is the important industrial bases with oil, chemical and steel factories. This paper investigated the arsenic and antimony distribution, and compared their pollution patterns in the sediments from Daliao River watersystem. The results show that the concentration of As varied from 1.6 to 18mg/kg, with an average value of 6.9mg/kg, and Sb concentration was in the range of 0.13 and 1.77mg/kg, with an average concentration of 0.54mg/kg. High concentration of As and Sb were found in Site T3 due to the pollution from smelter activity and Site Dz near river mouth. The vertical distribution of As and Sb at Site X7 and H5 show same trend and reflect the pollution history of urban industrial and domestic wastewater from Shenyang City.
