Assessment on heavy metal pollution in the sediment of Longfeng wetland

In order to know the contents and the degree of the potential ecological risk of heavy metals in the sediment of Longfeng wetland, the pollution of heavy metals are evaluated by using the Index of Geoaccumulation and the Potential Ecological Risk Index based on the detailed survey and analysis of the current state in the wetland. The results indicate that Longfeng wetland has been polluted by heavy metals in different degrees. According to the Index of Geoaccumulation, the pollution degree of heavy metals is as follows: Cd>Pb>Ni>Zn>Cu=Cr;the ecological risk to the wetland is: Cd>Pb>Ni>Zn>Cu>Cr, which might result from oil production, chemical industry and domestic sewage. Furthermore, the results revealed that the Longfeng wetland has obvious buffering, purifying and filtering function for the heavy metals contamination. We suggest that local government should control the discharge of various pollutants for the sustainable development of ecological environment in Longfeng wetland.
