Recent changes in the concentration of Ni in various aqueous media in a Finnish integrated monitoring catchment

This paper discusses recent changes in the concentrations of Ni in various aqueous media in a forested catchment at Hietajarvi, Finland. The concentration of Ni in bulk deposition decreased steadily after 1994 reaching a minimum in 2002 where after the level again increased. The concentrations in lake water, stream water and ground water reflect the strong bulk deposition peak in 2003, although the changes of the atmospheric load are often delayed in the time series of the other aqueous media because of high retention in the catchment. Measurements from 2005 suggest that the concentration of Ni in throughfall might be 5-6 times higher than concentration in the rain water.
