Distribution and mobility of bio-available phosphorus in sediments from rivers around Lake Taihu

Sediment samples collected from rivers around Lake Taihu were analyzed for TP、TN、TOC and bio-available phosphorus (BAP). Data showed that TP、TN and BAP in sediments of northern rivers were higher than in southern rivers. The phosphorus fractions followed the same order AAP>OIsen-P>WSP>RDP for the different regions. The total concentrations of phosphorus in sediments depended on the discharges and the phosphorus fractions were associated with the different pollutants. The industrial wastewater could influence the bio-available phosphorus of sediments, especially AAP. The BAP in river sediments were generally higher than in lake sediment, but AAP showed the reverse trend. The differences were resulted from the distinguishing environmental conditions.
