Sequential extractions, dissolution kinetics and XRD for the study of As speciation in Fe-bearing secondary minerals in mine tails

The objective of this study is to determine arsenic species in mine tailing, from an abandoned mine area of Tolfa in Central Italy, by applying preliminary X- ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy- energy-dispersive X-ray (SEM EDX) and X-ray absorption nearedge structure (XANES) analyses, two approaches for the evaluation of elements mobility (i. e. sequential extraction procedure and kinetic tests), and by applying XRD for a complete description on the real mineralogical form of the leached solid substrate.
