Prediction of zinc accumulation using a mass Balance Model in Cropland Soils Amended with Organic Resources

A mathematical mass balance model is used to determine zinc accumulation of the soils receiving seven consecutive annual applications of organic resources, demonstrating potentials of recycling wastes for agricultural use in Korea. A PC-based algorithm is used to solve the equation and the mass balances of Zn in sludge or compost treated soils are simulated for 100 years using this model. After validation on outcomes of simulations in agreement with experimental data, the Monte Carlo simulations were used to estimate the uncertainties of the model. Consecutive using of pig manure compost for 100 years under conventional agricultural situation of Korea estimated that Zn contents of the vegetables upland soils would change from 51.8 to 472.6mg·kg<-1> and 95% confidence interval showed 299.9 to 645.4 mg·kg<-1>. In the other hand, using municipal sewage sludge estimated that Zn contents of the vegetables upland soils would change from 51.8 to 446. 8mg·kg <-1> and 95% confidence interval showed 226.2 to 667.5mg·kg<- 1>. In the same way, Zn contents in cropland soils after 100 years were estimated from the different cultivating group of crops continuously amended with pig manure compost or municipal sewage sludge.
