Use of biosolids as a strategy for copper mine tailings remediation: influence on the microbiological and biochemical properties
A greenhouse pot experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of biosolids addition and plant cover on microbiological and biochemical properties on copper mine tailings. The addition of biosolids improved the microbiological and biochemical properties of the substrate, such as basal respiration, microbial biomass C and some enzyme activities. However, plant cover establishment did not significantly increase these properties compared to unvegetated treatments. This study demonstrates the value of biosolids use for early establishment of soil processes in reclaimed mine railings.
