An Improved Lorentzian Technique for Exploring the Earth-Ionosphere Resonator Correspondence to:
The effectiveness of various formulations of the Lorentzian procedure for estimating Schumann resonance (SR) characteristics from transient electromagnetic signals is tested in the limits of a simplified, spherically uniform model of the Earth-ionosphere resonator. It is shown that the major improvement, in comparison with the “classic Lorentzian formulation, is being achieved when the intra-modal phase interference is taken into consideration. The effect of the “limited frequency dispersion–that is of a noticeable importance at the lowest SR modes - can be effectively neutralized by interpolating the propagation parameter between the adjacent modal frequencies. Several practical aspects of the Lorentzian procedure are also discussed.
