Calculating global storm activity rate on the basis of Schumann resonance background component

This work presents the results of applying a new method of calculating the global storm activity rate IRS . The permanent analysis of the global storm activity rate IRS may become an important tool for testing Global Electric Circuit (GEC) model. The method uses the background component of the first 7 Schumann resonances (SR). The rate calculations applied based on ELF observations carried out in years 2005-2006 in the observatory station of the Jagiellonian University in the Eastern Carpathians. Diurnal runs of IRS rate were compared with diurnal runs of field intensity E0 Z amplitudes registered at the Earth’s surface in the geophysical observatory IGF PAN in Swider near Warsaw. The days with the high value of the correlation coefficient R between amplitudes of both observed parameters characterizing atmosphere electric activity are shown. The seasonal changes of R, IRS and E0Z are also presented.component is fitted to the formula
