The Analysis of AC Corona in Atmospheric Air
A novel approach to studying ac corona in air is reported in which a computer-based digital partial discharge detector was used to store and analyse pulse data during the measurements, to give real-time displays and, after post-processing and analysis, to provide more complex display formats. The value of the approach is demonstrated by a selection of results for different voltage levels in the form of graphs of pulse number versus both charge and point-on-wave and for various pulse size ranges at a particular voltage. The latter show up a problem in respect of the conditioning effect of the processing software on the data. This is investigated and a degree of ‘reverse conditioning’ is successfully applied.
