Laboratory Research On Lightning Control By Femtosecond Laser Plasma Channel
The triggering and guiding of the stationary electric field discharges in 3-23cm long air gaps are demonstrated by using plasma channels, which are produced by 40mJ ultra-short laser pulses. We have observed that the plasma channel allowed the discharge breakdown voltage reduced to 40% of the natural breakdown voltage. By analyzing the delay between the laser pulses and the white light emission of discharge, we evaluate the speed of the stepped leader with laser guiding is about 10 7 cm/s.
