RECOIL STREAMER INCEPTION DURING LIGHTNING DEVELOPMENT
In order to investigate the recoil streamer onset, a model of lightning leader has been developed to calculate the time evolution of the current along the branches. This model is based on an electrostatic approach where the leader is simulated by a conductive filament surrounded by a space charge. The leader propagates until the available potential at its tip decreases above 225kV. The model has been tested for an upward leader developing from the ground with an ambient atmospheric field generated by a mature thunderstorm. In this case, the lightning leaders develop during 100 ms and produce a current from 100 A to 600 A at ground level.
