Charge Density Distribution along a Positive Upward Lightning Leader Stroke Channel
Charge density along a positive upward leader stroke channel is estimated using simultaneously-measured electric current, electric field change and high speed image of the leader which occurred on a windmill in Japan. It appears that non-uniform charge density model along the lightning channel is the most suitable distribution to correlate all those three measured parameters. The charge density decreases with progression of the leader stroke. The charge density of the leader channel is 1 mC/m when the leader arrives at 20 m height from a wind blade and 9 mC/m at 85 m height.
