Laboratory characterization of the current produced by a negative leader during a step

The current waveform associated with a step negative leader has been characterized for air gap from 4 to 6 m. The derivative of the current reaches a maximum of 20kA/μs. The modelling performed is based on a RLC line with non constant resistances. The derivative of current computed is in good agreement with experimental measurements.
