Simultaneous observations of optical and electrical signals and Pattern Recognition research in lightning flashes
This paper presents an statistic analysis Experimental data on simultaneous lightning optical and electrical signals using the wide-band electric field instrument and the optical ripple detector. Statistic show that lightning optical signal is always delayed from electric signal on onset and peak time, and optical pulse rises more slowly to the peak and its pulse-width is broader. As the time-domain characteristics said before, In-cloud flash are more lagged or wide than cloud-to-ground return stroke. Moreover further study by optical and electric time series on lightning flash classification pattern recognition is done. By way of back propagation Artificial Neural Networks , the results are up to the standard except In-cloud flash. Because there are complicated process and insufficient data.
