The Simulated Study on Beneficial Factor of Various Lightning Flash Initiation
Intracloud lightning(IC) and Cloud-to-Ground(CG) discharges have been simulated in 12.5 m resolution within 2-dimension domain by using an Modified Stochastic Lightning Model. The simulations have uncovered the beneficial factor of various lightning flash initiation. The results are as follows: (1) IC flashes are initiated near the boundary between positive and negative charge zones and their reference potentials are near to 0 MV. A Positive IC flash occurs in the normal dipole structure with the upper positive and lower negative charge regions, while an inverted (or negative) IC flash in the inverted dipole charge structure. (2) Various CG lightning flashes are always initiated between a dipole charge structures near to the ground. The positive CG lightning flashes originate from the normal dipole charge structure, and the reference potential of initial channel is much more than 0 MV. Contrarily, the negative CG lightning flashes originate from the inverted dipole charge structure, and the reference potential of initial channel is much less than 0 MV. The lower opposite charge zone, relative to the middle main charge zone, would enhance the electric field magnitude between positive and negative charge region to be favorable to the lightning flash initiation, but it isn’t so powerful that the electric potential approach to 0 MV on the boundary between positive and negative charge region.
