Forecast of Thunderstorms with the Help of Numerical Model and Assessment of its Reliability

Forecast of thunderstorms is important for many branches of industry and especially to aviation. A method to predict lightning and main characteristics of Cb with the help of 1.5 dimensional time dependent numerical cloud model was developed in Main Geophysical Observatory. The forecast is made for the current date using rawisonde data. The model predicts vertical Cu depth, vertical velocity, LWC, IWC, intensity of precipitation, visibility, turbulence and other characteristics. Prediction of lightning is among these characteristics. Results of the testing has shown high reliability of the model.
