Lower atmospheric radar observations of thunderclouds in summer

摘要：

Lightning Research Group of Osaka University (LRG-OU) has conducted thunderstorm observation campaigns during summer seasons from 2004 to 2006 in Tono Aria (Gifu Pref., Japan). Main purpose of our observations is to study on the characteristics of atmospheric conditions when lightning discharges occur. It is founded that the period with most heavy lightning activity corresponds to the period of atmospheric unstable over the bright band height. The altitude of densest VHF radiation is lower than the bright band height.
