Possible Charge Structures in Convective Storms of Northwestern China

The charge structure and the relationships between electrical action and microphysical processes in convective storms of Northwestern China are further studied in this paper. In general, the charge structure featured long persisting lower positive charge center (LPCC) and main negative charge region for large portions of the storms’ lifetimes. It is not affirmed that positive charge region occurs in anvil in early period of rainfall, but exists in after. Based on the special electrical structure, most of intracloud (IC) flashes is produced between main negative and lower positive charge region. In early stage of rain gush, both IC and cloud-to-ground (CG) lighting flashes tend to occur as graupel descends to lower altitudes. A negative correlation between the electrical field at ground (Egnd) and the height of storng reflectivity is supported. The strong reflectivities (>30dBZ) gradients are bigger the flash rates are bigger.
