Analysis of the Relationship between Lightning and Charge Structures in Thundercloud Using Satellite Image and Radar Data

This paper calculates the intensity and distribution of the electric field at ground in the circumstances of different electrical structure and liquid-water content. Then we study the character of the satellite cloud figure and radar echo when the lightning happens. The results show that in condition that the amount of charges is average value and the altitude of the center of positive and negative charge is lower, the intensity of electric field at ground can achieve the critical value. It’ s easier to ge nerate CG when the upperwind shear gets stronger and the cirrus plume is more obvious. After the negative CG, the positive charges distribute at the plume, the intensity of electric field at ground under the center of negative charges and underneath the plume will be both get stronger. When there’s non-influence electrification, the more the liquid-water content, the more the amount of electrification. The distribution of lightning is accordance with the location of thundercloud in satellite figure and the severe radar echo.
