THUNDERSTORMS OBSERVATION AT METROPOLITAN AREA OF S(A)O PAULO ON WARM SEASON: 2004-2006

Cloud-to-ground lightning flashes activities maps over MASP were studies on warm seasons from 2004 to 2006. Spatial structure and temporal variability of maximum lightning flash activity were analyzed. The behavior of maximum lightning flash activity is according with observation of rainfall systems obtain by weather radar. Local convective structure observed by maximum lightning flash activity seem be form by sea breeze. Maximum lightning flash activity occurred over MASP is coincidence to higher rainfall rates associated to sea breeze related floods events. Hybrid flashes identified more than one LCC event per flash and E-transients higher than 5kV/m. This set of flashes presented negative polarity, average multiplicity of 3 strokes and LCC duration higher than 100 ms. Most of thunderstorms which presented high rate of hybrid flashes presented lateral extensive structure of thunderstorms and were associated to heavy rain and flood at MASP.
