Analysisof lightning activity in two thunderstorm systemsproducing sprites in France

Two sprite-producing mesoscale convective systems above the South-Western part of France are studied. The analysis of the lightning activity shows a decrease in stroke frequency in a short interval before the sprites and an overall reduction in the activity for respectively 2 and 1 hour after the first sprite. Interesting peculiarities are the long delay times between the positive lightning and the sprite and their relatively small peak currents.
