Lightning-induced Magnetic Fields in Buildings with Metallic Plates
This paper presented an approach to evaluate lightning-induced magnetic fields in the building with large metallic plates. The equivalent circuit models of the plates and the wire-plate junction found in building structure were developed. With this approach, the impulse magnetic fields in a modern building were characterized. It is found that these metal plates demonstrate a strong shielding effect against the lightning-induced magnetic fields, and can reduce the peak magnetic field approximately by 50%.
