PML for the FDTD Calculation of Fields Generated by Lightning Return Stroke

The finite-difference time-domain(FDTD) method was used in 2-dimensional cylindrical coordinates to calculate the fields radiated by lightning return stroke ,and the PML absorbing boundary conditions was adopted to truncate the computational domain. The calculated horizontal electric fields were respectively compared with the results obtained by the use of the first order Mur absorbing boundary conditions and the accurate results obtained by Cooray-Rubinstein formula ,and the results of comparison show that the result by using PML absorbing boundary conditions is more accurate ,while the result by using the first order Mur absorbing boundary conditions is not accurate for its poor absorbing efficiency.
