NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF FILLING PROCESS IN CASTING WITH LATTICE BOLTZMANN METHOD
Filling process is very important in casting. This study targets on a new method for modeling the filling process in casting. Lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) is a powerful technique for the simulation of flows in complex geometries. This study presents lattice Boltzmann method as a promising approach to simulate the filling process in casting. This article consists four parts. The first one gives a brief overview of lattice Boltzmann method as a powerful technique for modeling of fluid flow. A standard lattice Boltzmann model is introduced in the second one. In part three, analysis of the flow similarity between standard lattice Boltzmann model (LBM) and real fluid field has been done; parameterization in lattice Boltzmann method to present a real fluid is also proposed and validated, and then scale problem of using LBM to modeling filling process is discussed. At last, overview of two free surface models based on lattice Boltzmann method which has achieved great success in application of modeling free surface flow are introduced.
