STUDY ON CUT-CELL METHOD FOR CASTING PROCESS SIMULATION

In this paper, a cut-cell method on Cartesian grids has been developed to simulate three dimensional mold filling. Cut cells at a cast-mold interface are generated on Cartesian grids. With the boundary cut cells, special treatments are necessary. Governing equations were computed using volume and areas of cast at cut cells. We tested simple shapes for verifying our developed module and compared the cut- cell method with the traditional one in Cartesian grids. We applied the developed module to the casting product simulation. Momentum loss and unsound fluid flow patterns occur on Cartesian grids because of inaccurate generation of meshes. We have improved these problems by using cut-cell method with the advantage of this grid system. We also have raised the performance of computation by reducing the whole number of meshes.
