ESTIMATION AND REDUCTION OF DEFORMATION DEFECTS IN STEEL CASTINGS BY A CAE SYSTEM
Producing near-net shaped castings requires eliminating distortion defects. This paper presents application of a CAE to estimate and eliminate distortion defects in steel castings used in construction machine. The CAE adopts a finite difference scheme instead of the FEM, allowing the use of regular block mesh, resulting in easy enmeshing, less memory size and shorter CPU. This CAE was applied to steel castings cast in sands mold for evaluating the opening and swelling of box-type castings. The results greatly helped to solve the problem; namely with replacing CO<,2>-2and core with shell core, optimum arrangement of connecting bar, etc.
