SIMULATION OF CONTINUOUS CASTING SLAB IN INDUCTION HEATING PROCESS

Induction heating of steel in continuous casting/rolling process is getting important as a means of reducing energy waste, reducing cost and enhancing efficiency. The use of middle frequency offers many advantages, but tooling and cycle optimization are complex and time consuming. The material properties change with temperature makes more exact analysis methods very difficult to implement. Therefore, a powerful computer aided numerical tool is selected to numerically model an induction heating process. A general-purpose of finite difference program was employed to simulate and analyze the above problem. The combination of electromagnetic and thermal fields, enabled us to complete the task. A coupling method of the two fields was also developed and implemented. This was done to incorporate the change in the material properties due to the change in temperature. For the sake of comparison and verification, a middle-frequency induction heating experiment was set up and a series of tests were performed. According to the compared results, the temperature distributions of the slab cast with different technical parameters were investigated, which could provide useful information to optimize the parameters of technology in heating process.
