Refinement of Hexabenzylhexaazaisowurtzitane (HBIW) by Mixed Solvent
Hexabenzylhexaazaisowurtzitane (HBIW) is the precursor to hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane (HNIW)-the most powerful high energy density explosive ever tested. In this paper, comparing the recrystallization rate of HBIW on different concentrations of DMF-Acetone solution, it is showed that the optimum ratio of mixed solvents is 30% DMF, 70% acetone (quality percentage; the volume ratio of solute and solvent was about 1:6, but carry on recrystallization with the pure acetone, the volume ratio of solute and solvent was about 1:12. This, to a great extent, saved the solvent of recrystallization, and improved recrystallization efficiency greatly.
