Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) of Double Base Propellant (EDB) Grains Using Computed Tomography (CT) System
Computed Tomography (CT) has been widely used in various medical and non-medical fields. It is also considered an appropriate tool for identification of defect in solid rocket propellants like extruded double base (EDB) propellants. Data in terms of CT number for EDB propellants with different composition; compaction pressure and inhibition materials have been generated for defect identification. Data on CT number reveals that Polyurethene (PU) based inhibition material results in decrease of the CT number range whereas the addition of antimony oxide in the base PU material results in increase in the average CT number as well as the range of CT numbers. The EDB grain having interfacial defect has also been analyzed with the help of CT number for proper identification.
