Experimental Investigation into Emulsion Explosive Desensitization from Microcosmic Scale
To explore the emulsion explosive desensitization phenomenon, microcosmic analyses using photomicrography, TEM and laser granularity analyzer were carried out The compressed emulsion explosive samples were made through the underwater explosion test. The dynamic pressure loading into the sample explosives was generated by the explosion of an underwater donor RDX explosive. The second charge, an emulsion explosive charge, was compressed by the dynamic pressure. Emulsion explosive samples with different emulsifier, sensitizer and emulsifier content were investigated. The results show that, after the emulsion explosive is compressed, dispersed phase particles in the matrix appear crystals, their diameters are larger and uneven, and their specific surface area turns small. It is proposed that the desensitization of emulsion explosives is caused by the breakage of emulsion explosives interfacial film and micro-balloons.
