Combustion Properties of Highly Metallized Magnesium/Sodium Nitrate Pyrotechnic Mixture

Combustion properties of highly metallized pyrotechnic mixtures of magnesium/sodium nitrate have been studied under different combustion pressures. The experimental results show that with the increase of combustion pressure, the burning rate of the Magnesium/sodium nitrate pyrotechnic mixtures firstly rises, reaches maximum at 5 MPa, and then lowers. The burning rate of the pyrotechnic mixtures increases along with decreasing particle size of magnesium powders. The sensitivity of burning rate to pressure increases by decreasing particle size of sodium nitrate. When the content of magnesium powder is about 70wt%, the burning rate of the pyrotechnic mixtures reaches a maximum.
