Experimental Study of Combustion Properties of Magnesium-Aluminum Alloysin Solid Fuel-rich Propellants
SEM is used to study the quenched surfaces of three kind of solid fuel-rich propellants with same content of magnesium-aluminum alloys(with mass ratio of 1/1), magnesium/aluminum powder(with mass ratio of 1/1) , aluminum powder. The quench method is low temperature quenching. At the same time, the images of combustion structures are used to research the differences of three kinds of metal fuels. The results reveal that there are no aggregations of metal powders and no traces of melted metal dripping from burning surface of fuel-rich solid propellants with magnesium- aluminum alloys metal fuel, but there are aggregations of metal powders and traces of melted metal dripping from burning surface of fuel-rich solid propellants with magnesium/ aluminum powder fuel or aluminum powder fuel. Experiments validate that the combustion efficiency of magnesium-aluminum alloys is higher than the other two propellants.
