Measures for the Termination of the History of No Concrete Dam without Cracking

Although a series of measures have been developed to prevent cracking in concrete dams since 1930, practically there is no dam without cracking. After systematic investigation, the author discovered that the basic reason is the neglect of superficial thermal insulation in the later age of concrete. It is possible to prevent cracking in concrete by permanent superficial thermal insulation in addition to comprehensive temperature control in the construction period. There are three concrete dams without cracking after completion in China. The cost of permanent superficial thermal insulation is rather low.
