Development of RCC Dams Design and Construction in Morocco
Since the construction of two small dams in 1985 and of Aoulouz dam in 1987, the design of RCC dam in Morocco experienced important improvements. From Aoulouz dam constructed using low quality fines, a thick reinforced CVC facings and systematic transversal joints, the design of Moroccan RCC dams changed with time. In 2007 Rmel dam has no joints, very thin reinforced CVC at the faces, high quality fines, is under construction using sloping layers method. The binder remains OPC at a dosage of 80 to 100kgm3 as no fly ash fulfilling international standard requirements is available in the country. Beside this development, an RCC using unprocessed material and only 40kg of cement is being used for a construction of more than 300, 000m3 earthquake resistant embankment. This very interesting experience will be used for a construction of a dam on a weak foundation.
